Sharing my thoughts makes me a little more human

and a little less like I stayed up all night working on a design

I’ve become increasingly aware that my generation is obsessed with knowing the status of their fellow peers.  At points, it’s almost too much to have to think about.  Do I update my blog? Post a tweet? Make another list on listography? Then there’s the entire facebook monster… pictures, status updates, writing on walls, responding to messages, rsvp to events, groups, conversations through your inbox, gifting, bumper stickers.. the list could go on forever. What about specialty networking sites like online dating, online portfolios like DeviantArt, professional membership sites like AIGA and LinkedIn?

And when you’re done with all that and think you’re in the clear, don’t forget about  missed calls, voice mail, text messages, picture messages, instant messages, email messages, iphones, ipods. When I finally break the electronic barrier I find myself much less witty in person.  Has technology crippled the ability to communicate in real life? When is enough really enough? Did you know they make an entire browser dedicated to social-networking fiends?

SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES LISTED IN THIS POST:
facebook, listography, twitter, deviantart, aiga, linkedin
    (…to name a few)

For those of you who don’t know, I tend to have bad luck holding on to cameras. Sophomore year, my Nikon S2 was stolen in Richmond at a party. Junior year, I left my purse under a table and my Canon SD890 got swiped. This past summer, I finally bought a new Canon SD870. 2 weeks later it fell out of my purse under a table at a restaurant (which I didn’t realize until the next morning)… once again, never to be seen again.

After a few months I begrudgingly bought another sd870… which I’m trying really hard to hold on to for a decent amount of time. With that said, it’s safe to say I’ve spent a crap-ton of money for the pictures I took in 2008. This is my showcase of these pictures, taken with 3 different cameras, the best of 2008.

So I just got home from my 4-hour drive back to Northern Virginia and decided to take a look at some of the pictures from this past week.  I found some good ones from our night at the Cellar last Thursday…  and thought I would waste some more time by photoshoping them to look “old school” (which constitutes pretty much anything slightly unsaturated w/ minimal contrast and awkward blurring in this instance.)

Finally got my business cards printed! Good thing I only made 20 because I decided I want to make the type at the bottom one weight heavier and a few points bigger. Thought it was amusing when the kinko’s worker thanked me so much for actually knowing to add bleeds and safe space around the edges for cutting. They’re printed on a “natural” color paper to mimic the cream color on this website. Featured are two of my favorite fonts: Museo (the slab serif) and Aaux Pro (has cute numerals too!)

The question is, when was the last time you got handed a business card? Maybe I’m just too young.
